On your route
De Panne not only has the widest beach on the coast, it is also blessed with a wealth of architectural heritage. The Dumontwijk owes its unique character to its careful positioning in the landscape. When the district was laid out, the designers successfully preserved the natural dune relief and sparse vegetation. On the high dune tops of the Dumontwijk, spacious villas with sea views were built in the final years of the 19th century. Even today, it is a delight to stroll among the typical cottages and winding lanes. But De Panne has more architectural surprises in store. Alongside the traditional cottages, many remarkable modernist villas were built too. This walk pleasantly guides you through a showcase of coastal architectural heritage.
- Dumontwijk: This district was laid out under the direction of Albert Dumont, who also designed several of the villas.
- Interbellumwijk: This district lies east of Zeelaan and borders the Houtsaegerduinen. Most houses date from the 1920s and 1930s.
